Babolat GT TechnologyGraphite Tungsten: A hybrid material, combing braided carbon fibers and tungsten filaments, throughout the entire racquet. Improves racquet performance, based on the concentration of Tungsten fibers at strategic parts of the frame. GT technology adds control and feel.

Babolat Cortex ActiveCortex Active: Every time a racquet hits a ball, it generates thousands of vibrations, hundreds of which cause discomfort, while others help players get a better feel for the ball. Since each player has different needs, Babolat has designed a system with three new types of dampeners to enable all types of players to find just the right amount and kinds of sensations to suit their specific style and preferences.

Babolat Aero Modular TechnologyThinner width at the upper section of the raquet provides increased power. The standard width midsection provides stability, and a wider base provides more stiffness for increased control and a faster swing.

Babolat Woofer Dual TechnologyWoofer, Babolat's patented innovation, is the first technology that causes the frame and strings to interact when striking the ball. Woofer provides 25% more contact time between the ball and strings, giving players more control and feel. Further, the optimized interaction between the frame and the strings allows the racquet to deliver its full potential.

Babolat AeroPro Drive GT 2013 Tennis Racquet Review

By Chris Lewis

INTRODUCTION: The Babolat AeroPro Drive GT is one of those racquets that's in a class of its own. It has become one of those unique, "classic" racquets that has built up an enormously loyal following, and not just because of the racquet's link to one of the all-time greats, Rafael Nadal, but because it is a great racquet. And with all great racquets, there's enormous interest whenever a new generation is released. Below are my thoughts on the Babolat AeroPro Drive GT 2013 model.

GROUNDSTROKES: There's no question that the 2013 AeroPro Drive GT has retained the distinctive AeroPro Drive feel. For a relatively light racquet, it's very powerful and stable. It has that solid feel that is at least the equal of much heavier frames. I particularly liked the amount of swing speed I could generate because, upon contact, the racquet is totally uncompromising. In contrast to many racquetts that are in the same weight category, the Babolat AeroPro Drive GT 2013, true to its tradition, makes the ball behave like its a much heavier frame while retaining all the advantages of a relatively light racquet. For example, it's a racquet that's well known for being able to generate enormous spin; this is so because it enables fantastic swing speed in combination with a wider beam than many players racquets, and an open 16x19 string pattern.

While the AeroPro Drive GT 2013 plays very differently than the racquet I normally use, I quickly got used to the way it plays. It's quite a stiff frame, but I was impressed by how comfortable the racquet feels when making contact with the ball. Hitting in the sweet spot produced an incredibly satisfying result. The unusual combination of a stiff racquet absorbing virtually all of the impact when hitting big groundstrokes was a great feeling, particularly when the result produces either tremendous power and/or spin. The racquet has a well deserved reputation for its enormous topspin producing qualities; however, when it came to slice, I found that I could hit better and more accurate slice backhands than with any previous AeroPro Drive.

As for control and touch, I found the 2013 frame to be quite impressive. Although it's definitely not designed for players who play with lots of finesse, the AeroPro Drive GT 2013 offers a sufficient amount of feel for big hitters. I found that the excellent feedback to the hand and arm in combination with the impact absorption quality of the racquet resulted in a good amount of sensitivity to touch shots for a stiff frame.

VOLLEYS: The Babolat AeroPro Drive GT 2013 is fun to volley with. It's also stable and extremely powerful. Around the net, it's a racquet that doesn't come with any frills. I found that I was not tempted at all to hit anything other than solid volleys into the corners with compact swings and a very firm grip on the handle. Because of the frame's stiffness, I couldn't get the same feel and control with my volleys as with, say, any of the frames in the Pure Storm line. However, this is exactly why the AeroPro Drive is designed the way it is; namely, to appeal players who like firmness and solidity in a racquet when volleying. It's maneuverable, gets great penetration, and is extremely stable, even when playing against huge pace.

SERVES and OVERHEADS: With the racquet's combination of swing speed and power, the 2013 AeroPro Drive GT, I found that the racquet is a real serving weapon. It was excellent in all areas, from hitting big, flat serves down the "T", to hitting heavy slice serves out wide, to hitting big, spinning kick serves, the racquet excelled. Along with its spin and power producing qualities, I also found it to produce a high level of accuracy, which places it firmly in the category of "excellent serving racquet"..

And the same goes for overheads; its maneuverability and power production means that any poor overhead result is definitely not the fault of the racquet. For hitting overheads, the Babolat AeroPro Drive FT 2013 GT couldn't make things any easier.

RETURN OF SERVE: When returning, I found that the racquet offers pretty much everything that is required. Against big servers, the AeroPro Drive is ideal for blocking returns back with compact, abbreviated strokes. Against weak serves, it's equally ideal for going on the offence with big, powerful shots that either put your opponent on the back foot or end up as clean winners. When taken out wide, I was able, at full stretch, to produce enough power to place balls accurately enough with either enough depth or angle to effectively counter my opponent's serves. Definitely no weakness whatsoever when it comes to effective returning.

SUMMARY: The Babolat AeroPro Drive GT 2013 is a highly impressive racquet that easily lives up to its reputation as one of the world's most popular players frames. It retains the distinctive AeroPro Drive characteristics while offering enhanced technology that at the very least will provide current AeroPro Drive players a legitimate and attractive option to switch to, while offering potential AeroPro Drive players a state of the art players frame that is renowned for its spin production qualities and unique, aerodynamic frame.
