Babolat GT TechnologyGraphite Tungsten: A hybrid material, combing braided carbon fibers and tungsten filaments, throughout the entire racquet. Improves racquet performance, based on the concentration of Tungsten fibers at strategic parts of the frame. GT technology adds control and feel.

Babolat Cortex System TechnologyThe Cortex System is a revolutionary active technology between the throat and handle of the racquet. With this new technology, the two parts of the racquet are linked by an interface in CDS (Cortex Dampening System) material. This technology allows the filtering of the different vibratory modes. It eliminates unnecessary vibrations and enhances the feel of the ball. "Enjoy the pure feel."

Babolat Woofer Dual TechnologyWoofer, Babolat's patented innovation, is the first technology that causes the frame and strings to interact when striking the ball. Woofer provides 25% more contact time between the ball and strings, giving players more control and feel. Further, the optimized interaction between the frame and the strings allows the racquet to deliver its full potential.

Babolat Pure Drive Plus GT 2012
Tennis Racquet Review

By Chris Lewis

INTRODUCTION: After being so impressed with the Babolat Pure Drive GT 2012, I was looking forward to playing with the Plus version of the 2012 Pure Drive, the Babolat Pure Drive Plus GT 2012. With the only difference in the specifications of the two racquets being the extra 1/2" in length, I was interested to see how much the extra length affected their respective playability.

GROUNDSTROKES: What initially struck me was the extra power I could get with the Pure Drive Plus. I didn't have any trouble getting used to the extra half inches in length for two reasons: First, I've frequently played with 27 1/2" frames and, second, the Babolat Pure Drive Plus GT is beautifully weighted so maneuverability is easy.

But getting back to the power, I found myself having to adjust the range of my shots as they were landing deeper than I expected. This wasn't a result of the racquet behaving unpredictably, it was a matter of my having to adjust to the extra power I had available to me. Once I got used to the racquet's range, I was very impressed with just how smooth and comfortable the racquet felt. By introducing a new Cortex Damping System into the 2012 Pure Drive frames, Babolat have taken the feel and control of the whole Pure Drive series to a new level.

To me, the single most important thing when choosing a racquet is that it feels comfortable. Of course, you then have to be happy with the way the racquet plays; i.e., the power, the control, the feel and the accuracy all have to be there, but racquet comfort is the most fundamental thing. Without it, playing isn't any fun. What's so great about the new Pure Drives is that they're so much fun to play with. The six new frames target six different categories of player; however, all of the new frames are incredibly comfortable to play with.

What distinguishes the Pure Drive Plus GT (and the Babolat Pure Drive Roddick Plus GT 2012) from the four standard length 2012 Pure Drive frames is the extra length and the resultant extra power. I found I could do everything I wanted with the racquet, from hitting flat drives to hitting heavy topspin and slice, as well as playing with pretty decent touch and feel. I didn't have quite the control I had with the 27" Pure Drive GT, but I still loved playing with such a powerful, smooth racquet.

VOLLEYS: Volleying with extended versions of any racquet has its pros and cons. The pros are that you get a little extra reach and a little more power, and the cons are that you lose a little maneuvereability and agility. For volleying, I found the Babolat Pure Drive Plus GT to be an incredibly easy racquet to play with. It's light weight and head light balance make it particularly easy to move around, and I found that it's also very stable even against the biggest shots.

Whether I had plenty of time or whether I had to rely on my reflexes, I found the racquet to be equally good. I had no trouble whatsoever generating pace with sufficient control, and I was also able to place volleys accurately when I was more or less redirecting shots coming at me with lots of pace.

Although I would say that the Babolat Pure Drive Plus GT is designed more for baseliners looking for a little extra power and reach, it is also an impressive racquet around the net. It's light and agile, has loads of power, and has comfort and feel.

SERVES and OVERHEADS: It's on the serve that 27 1/2" racquets really come into their own. The extra 1/2" translates directly into extra height and extra swing speed at the point of contact. When you combine those two factors with a racquet that has loads of power and comfort and a good amount of accuracy, you've got a real serving weapon in your hands. And that's exactly how I felt about the Babolat Pure Drive Plus GT 2012. It's always been a great serving racquet, but with the extra feel, it's now even better.

I loved the pace I could get, and I was just as impressed with how much spin I could generate with both kick serves and slice serves. Along with the Babolat Pure Drive Roddick Plus GT 2012, this is the best serving racquet in the whole Babolat racquet range.

For overheads, I could get immense power with very little effort. It'a super easy racquet to smash with.

RETURN OF SERVE: I especially liked the racquet for returning any serve I could get a swing at. Because the power level is so high and the control excellent for such a powerful racquet, I was able to play well within my power limit to hit returns that put my opponent under pressure. When returning big serves, I was able to hit solidly when taken out wide and I was also pretty effective when returning serves that gave me little chance to swing. The racquet's light weight and balance make it easy to maneuver; its stability eliminates any unexpected surprises; its comfort gives you really good feel; and its power lets you play well within your power threshold while
still hitting big.

SUMMARY: he Babolat Pure Drive Plus GT 2012 is an aggressive, powerful racquet that is fantastic for players looking
to play aggressive, powerful tennis.
