REWARD YOUR SPONTANEITY WITH d30

Head d30 technology
d30 belongs to the "smart materials" category and is a futuristic material with abnormal behavioral characteristics. More specifically, d30 changes its behaviour under dynamic loading or impact.

Integrated in the lay-up and positioned in the shaft area where the racquet flexes the most, d30 maximizes performance and offers new possibilities for players.

d30 is able to sense the needs of the players during different strokes. It's able to adapt to YOU. Upon high speed impacts,

On slow speed impacts, (slices or drop shots), the smart molecules absorb the impact to provide a softer touch for better feel. What does this mean for you? Your passing shots will have more pace, and your drop shots will be more precise; Head's YOUTEK racquets will reward your decisions by enhancing each shot.

HEAD GROMMETS WITH FRICTION REDUCING TEFLON POLYMER

Head Grommets Without Friction TechnologyFriction is a force that holds back the movement of a string when it comes into contact with a grommet. The new HEAD Grommets with Teflon® friction reducing polymer creates a self-lubricating effect in the base material, allowing the strings to slide through the grommets with nearly no friction for much less energy loss and much more power.

Conventional Grommets

Friction is present between the grommet and the string providing some degree of resistance during ball impact resulting in energy loss and less power.

HEAD Grommets with Teflon Friction Reducing Polymer

Head Grommets With Friction TechnologyThe Teflon friction reducing polymer provides a low-friction contact surface, enabling the strings to slide through the grommets with nearly no friction. Moving without resistance, the strings maintain their energy during ball impact, providing more power.

During the stringing process, the Teflon friction reducing polymer in the grommet system allows more even and consistent tension. The HEAD grommet system takes this friction away allowing a more true tension providing larger sweetspot!

Head Youtek IG Radical MP

Tennis Racquet Review

By Chris Lewis

INTRODUCTION: Of the four 2012 Head Radical frames, the Head Youtek IG Radical MP will appeal to the broadest range of players. Its weight, head size and balance make it appealing for juniors and adults alike. The 2012 model has the traditional look and feel of previous models, but with more modern looking cosmetics.

GROUNDSTROKES: At 10.4 ounces, the 2012 Head Youtek IG Radical MP is a relatively light racquet. As someone who plays with a racquet that's over 11 ounces, I'm sensitive to lighter racquets that don't provide the same stability that I'm used to. Before saying anything else, I found that the IG Radical MP is not only stable, but it's also extremely comfortable to play with.

After extensive testing and reviewing of the new (2012) Youtek IG Prestige line and the new (2012)  Youtek IG Radical line, I've been highly impressed by the comfort level of the new frames. For me,  a racquet has to feel comfortable both when swinging and when making contact with the ball. The Head Youtek IG Radical MP excels in both areas.

When swinging, I found it especially good when generating my own pace. It's a very maneuverable racquet that's great for swing speed, and there is a decent amount of flex and impact absorption on contact. Even when hitting at maximum pace, I still felt that the racquet gave me a significant amount of feel.

Having reviewed a few days earlier the heavier Head Youtek IG Radical Pro, I was interested in the comparative behaviour of the two racquets. I found that the MP was slightly more forgiving, whereas the Pro was a fraction more solid. The faster the pace of shots in the rallies, the more evident this became. It was only when I had to deal with balls that were coming at me with really significant pace that I could feel the weight of my opponent's shot pushing the MP around a little. This factor is irrelevant, though, unless it's in the context of a highly advanced, physically mature junior or a very capable adult. In which case, I would recommend the heftier Radical Pro because of the extra solidity when dealing with opponents who have "big" games.

On the other hand, for younger players and competent adults who really know their way around the court, the Youtek IG Radical MP would be an excellent choice. Even though it has a good amount of power for a players racquet, it also offers excellent feel. When it came to generating power, I found that the racquet does some of the work for you, but not to the extent where it was easy to get lazy with my strokes. When hitting touch shots, I liked the beautiful feel of the racquet.

The only thing further I would like to comment on is how much spin I could generate with the racquet. For a racquet with a tight string pattern (18x20), I generated a satisfactory amount of spin, but wasn't able to generate the excessive topspin that I can with some other frames. What I really liked was the feeling of being able to hold the ball on the string bed for what felt like a long time. And don't get me wrong, I was also able to get decent "grab" on the ball, but I didn't want to give the impression that its spin generating quality in any way defines this racquet.

For hitting groundstrokes, the Head Youtek IG Radical MP does everything equally well. Which is why it is going to have such broad appeal to a wide variety of players of all ages from intermediate to advanced level.

VOLLEYS:  Maneuverable and agile, the Head Youtek IG Radical MP is right at home at the net. It's also solid and secure, has a big sweet spot and tremendous feel.

The only time I was conscious of having to play extremely close attention to the racquet's behaviour was when I had to handle lots of pace. This was not an issue of stability as the racquet's stability is excellent; it was more to do with my being  used to volleying with heavier frames. For example, I felt more comfortable volleying against pace with the Head Youtek IG Radical Pro, which at 10.9 ounces is half an ounce heavier than the MP (although fractionally lighter in the head) and lets me volley with a slightly more compact stroke than with the MP.

That's the thing about racquets, the choice of them comes down to finding the attributes and characteristics that suit you and your game.  A 10.4 ounce racquet does not suit my game, but for players whose games suit a relatively light players racquet, the Youtek IG Radical MP is a real contender.

SERVES and OVERHEADS: I served exactly the way I expected. I had excellent swing speed, really good control and accuracy, and a reasonable level of pace. When it came to generating spin on second serves, the racquet was far better than satisfactory, but, as with heavy topspin on groundstrokes, it wasn't off the charts.

This is a racquet that is excellent for a wide variety of serves, particularly for players who rely
on accuracy and placement.

I had no problem at all with overheads. Generally speaking, hitting overheads is simple with MidPlus frames. And given this racquet's smoothness and high level of accuracy, as long as you center the ball, you're going to get the resonse your looking for without any surprises.

RETURN OF SERVE: Once again, I liked the versatility of the racquet. It was great for reacting quickly to pace, and equally good for generating my own pace. I did have a little trouble with returning big serves when I needed to hit a more compact stroke. The racquet absorbed the pace well; however, I couldn't quite get the firmness I like when returning a really heavy, fast first serve.

I was able to maneuver the racquet quickly into position for anything that required improvisation. Wide serves at full stretch and serves into the body were no problem because of the racquet's agility. But the Head Youtek IG Radical was at its best when returning second serves. All in all, it's a fine racquet for returning.

CONCLUSION: The Head Youtek IG Radical MP is an ideal racquet if you're an intermediate level player looking to develop your game, or if you're an advanced player looking for a light players racquet that offers terrific control and feel.
